Alexandra Arrieche (* ~ 1981) is one of Brazil originating conductor and composer . She has been chief conductor of the Night of the Proms concert series since 2015 and was appointed music director of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra in 2017.

Life

Alexandra Arrieche, originally from Brazil, began her musical training as a child. She began professional piano training at the age of eleven. A short time later she began to improvise songs . She wrote her first compositions at the age of 14. At the conservatory , she received piano lessons as well as flute and cello training . In her private life she conducted her first pieces of music when she was 16 years old.

In 1997 she was invited to attend a workshop for young composers in Spain with the composer Cristóbal Halffter . Alexandra Arrieche first began to study singing before she devoted herself to conducting and composing. At the São Paulo State University , she completed her studies in 2006 as a Bachelor of Arts from.

A year later, Alexandra Arrieche won the conducting competition of the São Paulo State University Orchestra (OSUSP) and became deputy conductor of the renowned orchestra in Brazil. In the following years she conducted numerous concerts with the orchestra. In 2009 and 2010, she conceived and led several conducting workshops in her home country to give young conductors the opportunity to work with local orchestras.

In 2010 she received a scholarship to study for a master's degree at Bard College with Harold Farberman . In 2011 she was the fourth woman to win the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship founded by the conductor Marin Alsop , a two-year training program specially designed for women. Since that year she has assisted Marin Alsop with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and, since 2012, with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra .

Alexandra Arrieche accepted numerous invitations for guest conductors. In 2012 she was named a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra-Peabody Conducting Fellow . The following year she received her Masters of Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University . In addition to her studies, she completed numerous master classes , including a. with Kurt Masur , Gustav Meier , Apo Hsu , Róbert Ragnar Spanó , Hugh Wolff , George Manahan, Bernard Haitink , Johannes Schlaefli, Cliff Colnot.

Alexandra Arrieche has been the musical director of the Night of the Proms concert series in Belgium and the Netherlands since 2015, and a year later in Germany, Luxembourg and Poland.

In 2017 she was appointed musical director of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra.

Alexandra Arrieche was a guest conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Sinfonietta, the Minas Gerais Philharmonic, the São Paulo State University Orchestra, the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Nacional de Mexico, the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra and the North Czech Philharmonic Teplice. She has also worked with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Bard Conservatory Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra.
