Alexandra Bachzetsis (born December 14, 1974 in Zurich ) is a Swiss video , installation and performance artist .

life and work

Bachzetsis completed her training at the Liceo Artistico in Zurich, at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Verscio and at the performance program of the STUK art center in Leuven (Flanders). This was followed by postgraduate studies in dance and theater at DasArts in Amsterdam . At the same time, Bachzetsis began to work with established dance companies such as “ Sasha Waltz & Guests” in Berlin and “ Les Ballets C de la B ” ( Ballets contemporains de la Belgique ) in Ghent.

“The confluence of different styles and media, aesthetic languages and a multitude of voices and bodies have been important elements in her work since the beginning. It thus creates a fusion of genres in which the body acts as an artistic as well as a critical instrument. Alexandra Bachzetsis explores how popular culture provides a repertoire of modes of expression, identification patterns and imaginations from which we continuously redesign and redefine our bodies. She contrasts the gestures from so-called commercial culture (online media, video clips, television) with modes of expression from the field of art (ballet, dance, performance). "

Her life partner is Adam Szymczyk (* 1970), Polish art critic, curator and artistic director of Documenta 14 in 2017 in Kassel and Athens.
