Alexandre Duval

Alexandre-Vincent Pineux Duval , called Alexandre Duval (born April 6, 1767 in Rennes , today's Ille-et-Vilaine ; † September 1, 1842 in Paris ) was a French architect, writer and theater director.

Pineux Duval was the brother of the diplomat Amaury Duval and the writer Henri Duval . After finishing school, Pineux Duval began to study architecture at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENCP) . Due to the political upheavals of his time ( French Revolution ) he lost his place at university and from this time turned to the theater.

Between 1810 and 1815, Pineux Duval was the director of the Théâtre l'Odéon , where he was then able to stage his own plays.

On October 8, 1812, the Académie française chose Pineux Duval as the successor to the late writer Gabriel-Marie Legouvé ( Fauteuil 4 ). He was followed in 1842 by the philosopher Pierre-Simon Ballanche in this place.
