Alexandrina of Balazar

Alexandrina Maria da Costa (born March 30, 1904 in Gresufes, municipality of Balazar ; † October 13, 1955 there ) was a Portuguese mystic and contemporary of Therese Neumann .

In 1944 she enrolled in the Association of Salesian Associates of Don Bosco (SMDB) under her spiritual guide Don Umberto Pasquale SDB .

She is reported to have escaped rape by jumping through a window when she was fourteen and has since been paralyzed. She sacrificed her suffering as a basic mystical attitude for the conversion of sinners and for peace in the world . As with other mystics, it is narrated that for years she only ate the body of Christ as food. Abílio Garcia de Carvalho was one of the doctors who examined and cared for Alexandrina . Abílio Garcia de Carvalho, an ardent supporter of the clerical-fascist dictatorship of António de Oliveira Salazar's Estado Novos , was instrumental in spreading the cult of the mystic.

Her grave in the parochial church of Santa Eulália von Balazar was a popular pilgrimage destination soon after her death.
