Alfonso Enrique Domínguez Maidana (born September 24, 1965 in Durazno ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

The 1.68 meter tall defender Domínguez played at least in January 1985 for the OFI . He was then from 1985 to 1992 on the squad of Club Atlético Peñarol . During this time he was involved in winning two Uruguayan championship titles in 1985 and 1986. With the Aurinegros he also won the Copa Libertadores in 1987 , where he was on the starting line-up in all final games. In the subsequent World Cup final defeat on December 13, 1987 against FC Porto, he was also involved from the start. During the clausura in 1991 and in the Apertura 1993 he was included in the squad of the Argentine capital city club River Plate . From 1994 to 1997 he played for Peñarol's arch-rivals Nacional . From 1998 to the end of his career in 2000, he was in the ranks of the Huracán Buceo, which was once extremely popular in Uruguay and has since disappeared from professional football due to insolvency .

National team

Domínguez took part with the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship 1985 in Paraguay . The Uruguayan team finished fourth there. During the tournament he was used by coach Aníbal Gutiérrez Ponce seven times (no goal).

He was also a member of the Uruguayan senior team . He made his debut in Celeste on June 19, 1987. His 31st and last international match he completed on June 25, 1990. He did not score an international goal. During this time he took part in the 1990 World Cup, where he was used in all three group matches and in the knockout loss against Italy . In 1987 he was with the national team South American champion at the Copa América in Argentina. He was also a member of the Uruguayan squad at the 1989 Copa America , which Uruguay finished in second place.
