Life

Claire Gérard initially belonged to the ensemble of the Théâtre du Marais in Brussels . Then she settled in Paris , where she was henceforth as an actress both on stage and in front of the film camera. She appeared in pieces by Jean Cocteau and Albert Husson and was also heard on radio broadcasts. In 1932 she was seen in her first film. Due to her plump figure, she was mostly cast in comical supporting roles as house servant or governess. She starred several times under the direction of Jean Renoir , such as in Bestie Mensch ( La Bête humaine , 1938) alongside Jean Gabin and in White Daisies ( Elena et les Hommes , 1956) alongside Ingrid Bergman and Jean Marais . She also worked as a voice actress and was regularly used on French radio. In 1958 she made her last film. She then worked almost exclusively as a voice actress before she died in Paris in 1971 at the age of 83.
