Alfred-Philibert Aldrophe (* 1834 ; † 1895 ) was a Jewish architect who was employed by the city of Paris and designed synagogues and other buildings for the Consistoire Paris .

Beginning

At first Aldrophe worked as an architect for the city of Paris for the world exhibitions of 1855 and 1867 . For the Consistoire de Paris he drafted the plans for the synagogue on Rue de la Victoire ( 9th arrondissement ), which was started in 1867 and inaugurated in 1874. The style is called the Neo-Byzantine style . In 1886 he built the synagogue in Versailles in neo-Romanesque style, also a style in synagogue architecture in Europe.

Orders from Gustave de Rothschild

Aldrophe became the preferred architect of Gustave de Rothschild , for whom he built the Hôtel de Marigny at 23, avenue de Marigny , today an outbuilding of the Elysée Palace , from 1873 to 1883 . Aldrophe also built the Château des Hayes in Saint-Maximin near Chantilly ( Oise department ) for Gustave de Rothschild from 1880 onwards . In Paris, he built the Gustave de Rothschild school on Rue Claude Bernard in the 5th arrondissement .

Late work

In 1873 he built the Hôtel Thiers on Place Saint-Georges in Paris ( 9th arrondissement ), which today houses the Fondation Dosne-Thiers of the Institut de France . The facade, which ends with a balustrade , is inspired by the Louis XVI style, which was fashionable around 1870.

In 1894 he designed an elegant Hôtel particulier , adorned with Ionic columns , for Alphonse Falco at 39, avenue Henri-Martin in Paris ( 16th arrondissement ).
