Fredy Bieler

Alfred "Fredy" Bieler (born April 18, 1923 in St. Moritz ; † April 24, 2013 in Zurich ) was a Swiss ice hockey player .

Career

Fredy Bieler took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz for the Swiss national team, where he and his team won the bronze medal. During the tournament he scored five goals and three assists in five games. He was also in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1950 and 1951 , where he also won the bronze medal. As the best European team, Switzerland became European champions in 1950. For Switzerland, Fredy Bieler made 53 international matches and scored 60 goals. At club level he played from 1942 to 1953 for the Zürcher SC with which he became Swiss champion in 1949. In the forties and fifties he belonged to the changing formations of the famous Zurich “er-Sturm”.

With his storm colleague Heini Lohrer from Zürcher SC, he later moved to the management of the calculating machine factory Precisa AG.

Fredy Bieler died a few days after his 90th birthday after a long and serious illness on April 24, 2013.
