Alfred Clemens Baumgartner

Alfred Clemens Baumgärtner (born July 16, 1928 in Wiesbaden ; † 2009 ) was a German literary scholar and author of young books .

Life

Baumgärtner studied English and German at the University of Mainz , where he also received his doctorate. He then worked as a secondary school teacher in Hessen. Then he became a lecturer at the PH Esslingen . At the age of 37, he received an extraordinary professorship at the University of Giessen . At the end of the 1960s he switched to a professorship at the University of Frankfurt , then to the University of Würzburg . From 1972 to 1995 he held the chair for didactics of German language and literature at the Institute for German Philology. It was here that he acquired his academic reputation as a reading and reader researcher and as a specialist in children's and youth literature.

From 1976 to 1986 he was President of the Volkacher Academy for Children's and Young People's Literature . In addition to many other honors, he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 1987 .

He has also published short stories and novels for young readers, e.g. B. "When the wolves come ...", "Beyond the mountains", "In the thicket", "The freedom of the Condor".
