Alfred Edward Chalon
Alfred Edward Chalon (born February 15, 1780 in Geneva , † October 3, 1860 in Kensington ) was a British painter .
Life
Alfred Edward Chalon and his older brother John James Chalon (1778-1854) grew up in Geneva until their father took up a position as professor at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the early 1790s . In 1797 Chalon studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London with a focus on watercolor and pastel drawings . In the following years he made a name for himself as a portrait painter in London society. On the occasion of her coronation, the young Queen Victoria had Chalon portray her in full coronation regalia in 1837. For the 10th anniversary of the throne, the engraver Samuel Cousins (1801–1887) used the drawing as a model for leaflets and later for a postage stamp (1851).
