Alfred Edward Taylor

Alfred Edward Taylor (born December 22, 1869 in Oundle , † October 31, 1945 in Edinburgh ) was a British moral philosopher.

Taylor taught Greek and philosophy at the University of Manchester from 1896 to 1903 . In 1903 he took over the Frothingham Professorship at McGill University in Montreal, in 1908 he switched to the chair of moral philosophy at the University of St Andrews . From 1924 to 1944 he taught at the University of Edinburgh .

He was considered a profound expert on Plato and Aristotle . Taylor received numerous honors and honorary doctorates; In 1911 he became an honorary member of the British Academy . From 1928 to 1929 he was President of the Aristotelian Society . In 1934 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

Since 1995–1996, a guest lecture on ancient philosophy has been held annually at the University of Edinburgh in his memory .
