Alfred Gleissberg

Friedrich Julius Alfred Gleißberg (born November 26, 1864 in Rockstedt , † August 21, 1963 in Leipzig ) was a German oboist .

Life

Gleißberg first attended the conservatory in Sondershausen and served as a military musician in the 107 Infantry Regiment in Leipzig. From 1885 to 1888 he studied oboe with Gustav Hinke at the Leipzig Conservatory .

He then worked for a short time at the Braunschweig Theater and the Old Theater in Leipzig . In 1888 he went to the Kurorchester in Interlaken, Switzerland and to the Bilseschen Kapelle in Berlin. From 1893 to 1930 he was a member (1st oboist) of the Gewandhaus Orchestra . In 1896 he was one of the founding members of the Gewandhaus Wind Quintet . From 1927 to 1942 he taught at the Leipzig Conservatory, most recently as a professor . His students included u. a. Axel Schmidt .

He was a member of the Leipzig Masonic Lodge Balduin zur Linde .
