Alfred Hartmann (translator)

Alfred Hartmann (born August 4, 1883 in Basel ; † January 26, 1960 ) was a translator and editor of humanistic authors.

Until 1950 Hartmann was a teacher of ancient languages at the humanistic grammar school in Basel. Since 1942 he published the Amerbach correspondence , a collection of the Amerbach family's correspondence , which has been continued by other publishers since Hartmann's death. As a translator, he translated the praise of the folly of Erasmus von Rotterdam and Thomas More 's Utopia from Latin into German . Both translations have been reprinted several times. Hartmann was also the editor of the biography of Thomas Platter the Elder. Ä.
