Alfred Herman

Alfred "Al" Howard Herman (born September 8, 1889 in New York City , New York , † December 1973 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American art director and production designer who won an Oscar for best production design at the 1940 Academy Awards was nominated.

Life

Herman began his career as an art director and production designer in 1933 with films such as King Kong and the White Woman , Emergency Call and The Past of Mary Holmes, and was involved in setting up around ninety films until 1952.

At the Academy Awards in 1940, he and Van Nest Polglase were nominated for the Oscar for best production design for Leo McCarey's melodrama Restless Love (1939) with Irene Dunne , Charles Boyer and Maria Ouspenskaya in the leading roles.
