Alfred Kolbe (born June 28, 1884 in Steyr , † April 8, 1950 in Linz ) was an Austrian lawyer and Nazi functionary. From 1934 to 1948 he was district captain or district administrator of Ried im Innkreis .

education and profession

Kolbe attended the Staatsgymnasium in Graz and passed the Matura there in 1903 . He then studied law at the University of Graz and took the 3rd state examination on July 9, 1908. Kolbe began his career in the administration of Upper Austria in February 1910 as an intern in the Lieutenancy of Linz . A year later he was transferred to the district authority of Schärding. He was spared participation in the First World War due to a heart defect, which is why he was classified as unfit.

Kolbe continued his professional career in Schärding and became district commissioner on June 13, 1919. On July 5, 1920 he was promoted to state secretary of government, in 1921 he was promoted to district captain of the Schärding district . After further years of service as district captain of Schärding, he was appointed government commissioner on January 26, 1927, on January 11, 1928, he was appointed regional government council and on 18 January 1934, he was appointed senior government councilor. In the same year he moved on April 11, 1934 as district captain to the district administration Ried im Innkreis. Even after the annexation of Austria , Kolbe was confirmed as district captain of Ried, despite resistance from the political leadership of the district of Ried, and he subsequently continued his work under the name of "district administrator". Despite his advanced age, Kolbe was drafted into the Wehrmacht in August 1941 , where he was employed as a war administrator until May 1942 . In June 1942 he resumed his service as district administrator in Ried.

From 1943 Kolbe was likely to have suffered from a state of exhaustion, which is why the Reichsführer SS, after a detailed investigation, asked for a transfer to a hospital or a rest home of the SS. He finally went to the SS Kurhaus Bad Nauheim for a month in August 1944 , after which he continued his work in Ried. He was suspended from his service in July 1945 and indicted in 1948 at the Ried People's Court on account of Sections 10 and 11 VG 58 StG. After an acquittal in August, he was given permanent retirement in 1948.
