history

Creation of the Sparkasse

Exactly ten years after the city elevation, the Sparkasse der Stadt Ried im Innkreis started its first business year on January 1st, 1867. The official opening took place the day before, on December 31, 1866, but no monetary transactions were made on that day. In 1980, through the merger of the Sparkasse Ried im Innkreis and the Sparkasse Haag am Hausruck, today's Sparkasse Ried-Haag was created.

Founding thought

In 1819 the "Association of ERSTEN Österreichische Spar-Casse" was founded in Vienna . It arose from the efforts of the upper social classes to make a contribution to alleviating the plight of the poor and was thus primarily a social act.

However, it took exactly 40 years before the founding idea began to prevail in the Innviertel through gentle pressure and persuasion by the political authorities .

Founding of savings banks in the Innviertel

The advance was made by the market town of Mauerkirchen ( Braunau am Inn district ) together with the twelve municipalities of the court district of the same name. Six years after the call to be founded, in 1859, the first savings bank in the Innviertel and the first financial institution in the Innviertel at all emerged in this small community. In 1861 the Stadtsparkasse Braunau am Inn was founded and in 1863 the municipality of Schärding am Inn also opened its own community savings bank . Gradually, the founding idea caught on with the affected municipalities. After repeated attempts in 1866 the municipality of Ried im Innkreis also succeeded in founding its own savings bank institute. Of all the Innviertel savings banks listed, only Sparkasse Ried-Haag still exists today as an independent institute. All other savings banks were mainly merged in the 1990s with the savings banks Linz (Schärding, Raab , Obernberg a. I. and Mauerkirchen) and Salzburg (Braunau a. I. and Mattighofen ) and lost their independence. The Sparkasse Engelhartszell was merged with the Sparkasse Peuerbach decades ago .

The savings bank

The municipality provided the Sparkasse with rooms in the city hall as an official office. There were three rooms on the second floor on the Roßmarkt side. With this rather modest amount of space, the Sparkasse had to make do with the new town hall building in 1893. The Sparkasse remained in the town hall until 1951. In 1950 she bought the "Innviertler Hof", Hauptplatz No. 44, from the Kriechbaum family and converted it for savings bank purposes. The building was demolished in 1972; A new building was erected in its place, in which the institute stayed for 35 years. In November 2007, the Sparkasse Ried-Haag moved into the new building on the market square, which meets all the requirements of a modern financial institution.

Support and donation activities

In accordance with Section 22 of the Savings Bank Act , Sparkasse Ried-Haag has donated considerable sums to the municipality of Ried and the municipality of Haag every year since it was founded . Without this support, the municipalities would often not have been able to realize significant projects.

Projects supported by Sparkasse Ried-Haag:

  • Construction of the high school
  • New construction of the town hall
  • Construction of the city sewer system
