Alfred Oberländer ( December 26, 1857 in Náchod - April 22, 1906 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

The son of a businessman completed his technical studies and joined the Austrian Northwest Railway as a civil servant . From there he came to the Crown Prince Rudolf Railway . As a member of the railway choir, he drew the attention of musicians; It was especially the chamber singer Marie Wilt who heard him at a concert of the aforementioned association and encouraged him to have his voice professionally trained.

He became a student at the Conservatory, studied particularly with Professor Josef Gänsbacher and made such progress that he even received an application from the management of the Hofopertheater in Vienna. However, after he had finished his training, Oberländer preferred to try a smaller theater first, where he was also given more opportunities to expand his repertoire and to be practically active.

In March 1881 he took the stage as "Faust" at the Landestheater in Linz . He liked it and was immediately engaged as the first tenor. After almost a year of activity, he made a guest appearance at the Kroll Opera in Berlin in autumn 1883 ; his reputation actually dates from this guest performance. As a result, advantageous proposals for engagement came from all sides.

The artist decided in favor of Karlsruhe , he worked there until 1895 and was celebrated as a Wagner interpreter and named Baden Chamber Singer . In 1884 he was a guest at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden , London .

From 1895 he no longer took on a permanent engagement, but only appeared as a guest at almost all German theaters.

Isa von Bernus was his second daughter.
