The House of Zogu or Zogolli ( Albanian  Fisi i Zogollëve ) is an Albanian dynasty that has existed since the 15th century. The family provided the only monarch in the Kingdom of Albania , Zog von Albania (1928–1939). The titles of the head are King of all Albanians , Hereditary Governor of Mati and Prince of Kosovo .

Since 1935 there has been the mausoleum of the Albanian royal family in the Albanian capital Tirana , which was initially created for the Queen Mother Sadije Toptani .

history

The dynasty was founded by Zogu Pasha , who migrated to Mat in what is now Albania in the late 15th century and was appointed governor of Mati by the Ottoman Sultan . The position of governor was hereditary under the Zogu clan. The headquarters of the Zogu was the Kulla in Burgajet .

The most famous member of the dynasty is Zog I., Skanderbeg III. who was crowned King of all Albanians on September 1, 1928. Before that, he changed his last name in 1922 from Zogolli (from Turkish Zogoğlu ) to Zogu. He ruled until the Italian invasion in 1939, when he was led by Victor Emanuel III. was deposed by Italy . Viktor Emmanuel immediately assumed the Albanian throne. King Zogu's son was Leka, Crown Prince of Albania , known as King Leka I.

The current head of the family of the dynasty is Prince Leka of Albania , the son of Leka, Crown Prince of Albania (died 2011). Leka has no sons and is the only living descendant of King Zogu. Prince Leka's current marriage presumptive is Skënder Zogu, his first cousin and descendant of King Zogu's older half-brother.
