Alfred Pfoser

Alfred Pfoser (born January 12, 1952 in Wels ) is an Austrian essayist and librarian .

Life

After studying German and history in Salzburg , Alfred Pfoser worked as a teacher at a grammar school in Vienna, later as an employee of the documentation center for modern Austrian literature . He was visiting professor at Washington University in St. Louis . Since 1982 he has been working for the Vienna Libraries , for a time as head of the purchasing department, from 1998 to 2007 he was in charge of the entire library network. From summer 2007 to 2016 he was head of the print collection and deputy library director of the Vienna Library in the City Hall .

From 2004 to 2008 Pfoser was chairman of the BVÖ (Austrian library association) .

As a journalist - including in the Salzburger Nachrichten  - and journalistically, Pfoser primarily published works on Austrian literary and cultural history. He also worked on exhibitions, such as With Us Draws New Times. Working-class culture in Austria 1918–1934 in Vienna 1981.

In 2019, Pfoser received the Victor Adler State Prize for the History of Social Movements .
