Victor Adler State Prize for the History of Social Movements

The Victor Adler State Prize for the History of Social Movements is a state prize of the Republic of Austria , which is awarded every two years by the Federal Ministry of Science and Research . The award named after Victor Adler , the Austrian politician and founder of the Social Democratic Workers 'Party , was initiated by the Association for the History of the Workers' Movement , founded in 1959 , and is awarded for “outstanding academic achievements in the field of social and cultural historiography ”. The prize is endowed with 7,500 euros, making it one of the most highly endowed for the humanities in Austria. The prize was awarded annually from 1980 to 1993. In 1993 the price was redesigned; since then it has only been awarded every two years. The application criteria are identical to the Karl von Vogelsang State Prize for the History of Social Sciences .
