Alfred Riedl (born November 7, 1952 in Grafenwörth ) is an Austrian public accountant and politician ( ÖVP ). Riedl was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament from 1998 to 2018 and has been president of the Austrian Association of Municipalities since 2017 .

Life

Alfred Riedl was born on June 7, 1952 as the son of the farmer couple Alfred and Anna Riedl in the Lower Austrian market town of Grafenwörth. After attending the local elementary school from 1959 to 1963, he completed secondary school in the neighboring community of Kirchberg am Wagram from 1963 to 1967 . After completing compulsory schooling, Riedl attended the Francisco Josephinum in Wieselburg from 1967 to 1972 and completed his schooling with the Matura. After completing the regular military service in the Austrian Armed Forces in 1972 and 1973, he studied at the Vienna University of Economics from 1973 and obtained the academic degree Mag. Rer in 1978 . soc. oec. While studying business education , he also worked as a special contract teacher at the Commercial Academy II of the Viennese business community. After completing his studies, he was employed as a contract teacher until the end of the 1984/1985 school year. At the same time, he trained as a tax advisor and founded his own tax consultancy firm in Tulln in September 1985 . In the following decades he continued to expand his law firm, so that locations in Krems , Korneuburg and St. Pölten were also established.

Riedl began his political career in community politics. He has been a member of the Grafenwörth municipal council since 1985 and was elected chairman of the examination board in 1986. Since 1990 he has held the office of mayor. Furthermore, Riedl has been a member of the provincial board of the Association of Local Representatives of the ÖVP Lower Austria since 1991 and was vice-president from 1996 to 2001. Since 2001 he has been its president. From April 16, 1998, Riedl represented the ÖVP in the Lower Austrian state parliament. Since 1997 Riedl has also been a member of the Presidium of the Austrian Economic Association and its financial advisor . From 2007 he was Vice President and since 2017 he has succeeded Helmut Mödlhammer as President of the Austrian Association of Municipalities . Before that, he was a member of this committee as chairman of the finance committee from 1999 to 2007. After the state elections in Lower Austria in 2018 , he left the state parliament.
