Alfred Udo Holzt

Alfred Udo Holzt (born December 11, 1859 in Bromberg ; † September 5, 1945 in Mittweida ) was a German engineer and was director of the Mittweida technical center from 1892 to 1936 .

Alfred Udo Holzt attended the grammar school in Tilsit from 1867 to 1877 , then worked for a year in the practice and from 1878 to 1880 attended the secondary school 1st order in Königsberg . Holzt passed the Abitur examination in 1881. From 1881 to 1885 he studied at the Technical University of Berlin-Charlottenburg and in 1886 took the exam to become a government mechanical engineer . In the following year, Alfred married Udo Holzt. In the marriage with Anna Meyhoeffer three children were born; Helene Holzt (1888–1948), Margarete Holzt (1889–1922) and Emil Franz Holzt (1895).

On April 1, 1888, Alfred Udo Holzt started teaching mechanical and electrical engineering at the Mittweida technical center . He acquired the educational institution in 1891 and took over sole management in 1892 . Alfred Udo Holzt's aim to deepen his electrotechnical training was achieved in 1894 with the completion of the "Electrotechnical Institute" (today Alfred-Udo-Holzt-Bau). He was a member of the Chemnitz Freemason Lodge Zur Harmonie .

From 1899 Holzt was a city ​​councilor . He was particularly committed to solving technical problems for the city, including the construction of the gas works and the electricity and water supply .

From 1901, Alfred Udo Holzt used the "teaching factory workshops" (later renamed "Precision workshops Mittweida" GmbH) and the "mechanical engineering laboratory". In the “Precise”, interns prepared for their studies. In addition, electrical machines, measuring devices, teaching aids and machine tools were manufactured there. Under the direction of Holzt, the model collection of the technical center also became well known.

From 1906 the Technikum Mittweida offered courses on automobile technology and from 1909 on aviation technology . Laboratories for high-frequency , radio and telecommunications technology were available for the budding electrical engineers .
