Alfred Winkler (General)

Alfred Winkler (born October 26, 1926 ) is a former German police officer. He was lieutenant general and long-time commander of the officers' college of the Ministry of the Interior - readiness in Dresden .

Life

Winkler joined the SED and became a member of the German People's Police (VP) and studied at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy . From 1961 to 1968 he was head of the administration training of the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR (successor to Karl Mellmann ). In 1968, as Colonel of the VP, he became the commander of the Technical College of the MdI - Readiness in Dresden, which on May 10, 1971 , was granted the status of an officers college of the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR and the German People's Police, Friedrich Dickel The honorary name "Artur Becker" was awarded. Winkler remained in office until his dismissal in 1990. On June 26, 1975 he was appointed major general by the chairman of the National Defense Council of the GDR , Erich Honecker , and was promoted to lieutenant general on June 27, 1988.

Winkler is a member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights (ISOR) and lives in Dresden.
