Alhos Vedros is a place and a freguesia (municipality) in Portugal in the district of Moita , Setúbal district with an area of 17.9 km² and 15,050 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). This results in a population density of 840.4 inhabitants per km².
The community is located on the banks of the Tagus River and used to be a fishing village. Today Alhos Vedros is part of Barreiro , a suburb on the other bank of the Tejo from Lisbon, which is expanding further and further into the surrounding area. Alhos Vedros is next to Alcochete one of the oldest communities on this southern river bank. Alhos Vedros has historical buildings such as its main church in São Lourenço or the only Manueline 'Pelourinho' that still exists in the Setúbal district , as well as old salt works on the banks of the Tagus .
