Ali Aliu (literary scholar)

Ali Aliu (born April 1, 1934 in Krani near Resen , SFR Yugoslavia , today Macedonia ) is an Albanian-speaking Macedonian literary scholar .

Life

Ali Aliu studied Linguistics at the University of Skopje and Albanology at the University of Belgrade . From 1959 he worked for various Albanian-language newspapers. In 1974 he received his doctorate from the University of Pristina with a thesis on the Albanian writer Petro Marko . There he taught literary studies until he was expelled from the university in 1990 for political reasons. He later taught at the private South East European University in Tetovo . At times he was a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo .

He is a member of the Academies of Sciences and Arts of Macedonia and Kosovo as well as the PEN of both countries.
