Alice Hasters

Alice Haruko Hasters (born June 10, 1989 in Cologne ) is a German journalist , book author and podcaster .

Life

As the youngest of three children of a black American mother and a German father, Alice Hasters spent most of her childhood and youth in the Cologne district of Nippes . Their parents raised their three children according to the Buddhist faith. In the eleventh school year, Hasters completed a year abroad with her uncle in Philadelphia "at a very diverse school".

After graduating from high school, she first studied at the Sport University in Cologne , but during this time she noticed that she was more interested in journalistic work. Hasters is a graduate of the German School of Journalism in Munich . She writes and publishes in particular on Afro-German identity , feminism and intersectionality . The topics also form the basis for her autobiographical debut book What White People Don't Want to Hear About Racism, but Should Know, which was published in 2019 . In June 2020 the book reached number 3 in the Literatur - Spiegel - Bestsellerlist Bestseller paperback non-fiction book 26/2020 and held this place in the calendar week 28/2020.

Hasters has been working since graduation a. a. for Tagesschau and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb).

Hasters and her friend and colleague Maximiliane Häcke have been producing and publishing the Feuer & Brot podcast since 2016 .
