Alice Rechsteiner

Alice Rechsteiner-Brunner (born December 23, 1896 in Küsnacht ; † August 22, 1946 in Teufen ; resident in Küsnacht, after marriage in Wald and St. Gallen ) was a Swiss women's rights activist from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Alice Rechsteiner-Brunner was a daughter of Edwin Brunner, engineer and cantonal councilor , and Lina Melanie Vogt. She attended primary school in Küsnacht and the free school in Zurich . After a stay in French-speaking Switzerland , she attended the secondary school for girls in Zurich from 1914 to 1916 . Until she got married, she was a volunteer at the "Tannenhof", the city of Zurich's refuge for endangered and stranded young women. In 1921 she married Otto Rechsteiner, district court president and co-owner of an embroidery trading house in St. Gallen.

In 1924 she was elected to the cantonal committee of the Pro Juventute Appenzell Ausserrhoden, chaired by Clara Nef . She was their most important partner. From 1926 to 1928 she was co-director of the commission for the preparation of Appenzell's contribution to the first Swiss exhibition for women's work (SAFFA) in Bern . From 1929 she was the treasurer of the women's center in Appenzell Ausserrhoden, which she co-founded . From 1935 to 1944 she was the actuary of the Federation of Swiss Women's Associations. In the community where she lives in Teufen, Rechsteiner campaigned for advice for mothers and family care .
