Alicia Pamela Kennedy, Baroness Kennedy of Cradley (* 22. March 1969 ) is a British politician of the Labor Party . Since September 2013 she has been a Life Peer member of the House of Lords .

Life

Kennedy was born as Alicia Pamela Chater. 1988 she studied until 1991 at the University of Warwick , where they have a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons) in professional psychology ( Psychology acquired).

She began her political career in local politics . From the 1990s she was politically active for the Labor Party. From 1995 to 1997 she was “Regional Organizer” of the Labor Party. 1997/1998 she was political advisor to the British MP Joan Ruddock . From 1998 to 2000 she worked as a "Policy Analyst" in the Leader's Office in the London Borough of Lambeth . Their main activities were in the areas of education and training as well as social affairs . In 2000 she was appointed to the leadership of the Labor Party. From 2000 to 2001 she headed the Office of the Secretary General of the Labor Party (Head of the General Secretary's Office). From 2001 to 2005 she was Chief of Staff (Chief of Staff) of the Labor Party. From 2005 to 2011 she was Deputy Secretary General of the Labor Party. From this office she resigned in November 2011 after internal party restructuring. From 2011 to 2013 she was a strategic advisor to the Labor opposition leader Ed Miliband . Since 2013 she has been the director and trustee of the charity APT Action on Poverty.

On August 1, 2013, it was announced that Kennedy would be made a Life Peer and a member of the House of Lords for the Labor Party. She was appointed as a so-called “working peer”. On September 19, 2013, she was raised to Life Peer with the title Baroness Kennedy of Cradley , of Cradley in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley and has been a member of the House of Lords since then. On November 4, 2013, with the assistance of Margaret McDonagh, Baroness McDonagh and Ray Collins, Baron Collins of Highbury , it was officially inducted into the House of Lords. Her political focus areas include in particular international development aid , domestic politics , community development and consumer protection . Her political interest is particularly in the countries of South Asia and the African states south of the Sahara .

She is married to Roy Kennedy, Baron Kennedy of Southwark .
