Alina Brodzka Forest

Alina Brodzka-Wald (born November 11, 1929 in Warsaw ; † March 19, 2011 ibid) was a Polish literary historian and professor at the Instytut Badań Literackich PAN .

Life

Brodzka-Wald was born on November 11, 1929 to a family of Jewish origin . Her family managed to survive the German occupation of Poland . After the Second World War , she attended high school in Łódź and then the University of Łódź . In 1949 she published her first scientific article in the journal Polonistyka (Polonistik).

In 1950 she returned to her hometown and started working at Instytut Badań Literackich PAN , where she worked until her death. In 1952 she received her Magister and her doctorate in 1960 with a thesis on the novellas by Maria Konopnicka . In 1966 she completed her habilitation with the work O kryteriach realizmu w badaniach literackich (On the criteria of realism in literary studies). In 1989 she became a professor .

From 1979 to 1992 she was the editor of the Słownika literatury polskiej XX wieku (Dictionary of Polish Literature of the 20th Century).

From 2006 to 2008 she was a member of the jury for the Gdynia Literature Prize .

In 2011 she died after a long illness.
