Aline Frazão (born June 17, 1988 in Luanda , Angola ) is an Angolan singer-songwriter . She mainly sings songs with strong influences from musical styles of the lusophone world . Frazão has released four albums since 2011.

Life

Aline Frazão was born on June 17, 1988 in the Angolan capital Luanda . Frazão performed for the first time at the age of nine and from then on sang mainly songs of the musical genres Fado, MPB, jazz and traditional music from Angola and Cape Verde. At the age of 15 she began to write songs herself.

After finishing school in Luanda, Frazão moved to the Portuguese capital, Lisbon , to study communication sciences. After a stay in the Spanish capital Madrid , she began to sing and write songs full-time and has since performed on numerous stages around the world, including in Paris, Dublin, Buenos Aires, Brussels and London.

A Minha Embala

In 2009 she founded the music project A Minha Embala ( flute , percussion ) together with her friend César Herranz . Together they sang songs from all over the lusophone world in Portuguese, Creole , Kimbundu and Umbundu and won the Musicando Carvalho Calero competition with the musical poem Maria Silêncio . The main prize was the recording and production of a music album , which the two released in July 2011 under the title A Minha Embala .

Clave Bantu

In September 2011 Frazão recorded her first solo album entitled Clave Bantu , on which eleven songs with strong Angolan influences can be found. Frazão herself said that she collected the songs during four years of traveling through her home country. Some songs have been recorded together with other musicians, including the Cuban double bass player José Manuel Díaz , the Galician percussionist Carlos Freire , the Brazilian guitarist Sérgio Tannus and the Portuguese trombonist Rúben da Luz . The album was released in December 2011. She performed the songs for the first time in July 2012 at the Luanda International Jazz Festival . In December 2012 she started her first smaller world tour.

Movimento

The artist's second solo album was released on May 20, 2013 under the title Movimento , produced by Ponto Zurca and Coast to Coast. She musically accompanied a band consisting of Marco Pombinho (piano and Fender Rhodes ), Francesco Valente (bass and double bass) and Marcos Alves (drums and percussion). They also accompanied the two Cape Verdean musicians Miroca Paris (percussion) and Vaiss Dias ( cavaquinho and guitar).

Insular

In 2015 Frazão recorded a new album called Insular , produced by Gilles Perring . According to her own account, she recorded songs on the small Scottish island of Jura . They also accompanied various musicians on this album, including the Portuguese Pedro Geraldes (electric guitar) and the Scottish harpist Esther Swift . All the songs are written by Frazão herself, with the exception of the song Susana - purely acoustic and the only one recorded in Lisbon - a traditional song that is very well known in Angola and that she performs herself in Kimbundu.
