successes
Alister Allan took part in five Olympic Games . In 1968 in Mexico City and 1976 in Montreal he finished ninth and 51st with the small bore rifle in the prone position. When he took part in the Olympic Games for the third time in 1984 in Los Angeles , he just missed his first medal win as fourth in this discipline, but was then able to realize it in a three-position fight. With 1162 points, he was one point behind second-placed Daniel Nipkow and eleven points behind Olympic champion Malcolm Cooper , but the number of points was enough for third place and thus the bronze medal. Four years later he moved into the final again in a three-position battle in Seoul , which he finished with 1275.6 points behind Malcolm Cooper and in front of Kirill Ivanov on silver. In the prone position he was also in the final and finished in fifth place. At the 1992 Olympic Games , he finished 43rd in the prone position and 38th in the three-position fight.
At world championships he won the title with the small-bore team in the kneeling attack in Seoul in 1978 and in Caracas in 1982 . In 1978 he also won the title in the individual. In 1982 he also won silver with the team in the three-position battle and bronze in the standing position. Allan won a total of ten medals at the Commonwealth Games between 1974 and 1994 . The gold medal he won it in 1978 in Edmonton with the small caliber in the prone position and 1982 in Brisbane with the small caliber in three positions and in the pair competition with the air rifle. With the small caliber, he secured three silver and four bronze medals, including four medals in individual competitions.
For most of his professional life, Allan was a trainer in the Royal Air Force . After the end of his career as an active shooter, he accepted an engagement with the New Zealand Rifle Association. Allan was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame .
