All India NR Congress

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The All India NR Congress (AINRC , Tamil அகில இந்திய என். ஆர். காங்கிரஸ் ) is a regional party in the Indian Union Territory of Puducherry . It was founded in early 2011 by N. Rangasamy , the former Chief Minister ( Prime Minister ) of Puducherry, as a spin-off from the Indian National Congress and immediately won the elections to Puducherry's parliament in April 2011.

The Congress politician N. Rangasamy had already been Chief Minister Puducherrys 2001-2008, but fell after a cabinet revolt. After Rangasamy had withdrawn from politics for two years, he announced the establishment of the AINRC in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in Puducherry in February 2011 and gathered several former Congress politicians around him. The success of the AINRC is largely based on the charisma of its founder, N. Rangasamy, who enjoyed great popularity during his first term as Chief Minister. The abbreviation NR in the party name officially stands for Namathu Rajyam ( Tamil for "our territory"), but the equality with the initials of N. Rangasamy is anything but coincidental. The AINRC enjoys its greatest support in the rural parts of Puducherry.

In the run-up to the elections, the AINRC concluded an electoral alliance with the AIADMK party, while the congress party allied itself with the DMK . As a result of the election, the AINRC-AIADMK alliance won in a total of 20 out of 30 constituencies. The AINRC was successful in 15 of the 17 constituencies in which it ran. The faction thus ended the twenty-year phase of congressional rule in Puducherry. After the election, N. Rangasamy, sworn in as the new Chief Minister, decided not to form a coalition government with the AIADMK, but to govern alone, whereby a renegade DMK candidate, who is now an independent member of parliament, will give him the necessary majority . This decision led to a clear resentment at the AIADMK.

In the all-Indian parliamentary elections in 2014 , the AINRC was able to win the constituency of Puducherry and is the only member of Puducherry in the Lok Sabha , the lower house of the Indian parliament. The AINRC was part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a party alliance led by the nationwide victorious Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
