Constituency history

The constituency of Pondicherry was established after the former French India became the union territory of Pondicherry in 1963 . The first Lok Sabha seat for Pondicherry was determined in a separate election in 1963. Since 1967 Pondicherry has participated in the general elections for Lok Sabha. Since the Union Territory of Pondicherry was renamed Puducherry in 2006, the constituency has also operated under the name Puducherry since the election of Lok Sabha in 2009.
