Allan Edwin George Elsom (born July 18, 1925 in Christchurch , New Zealand , † September 25, 2010 in Christchurch, New Zealand) was a New Zealand rugby union player on the position of the inner three quarters . Outside of rugby, he worked full-time as a real estate agent . He was also a brother-in-law of the also deceased rugby union player Nelson Dalzell .

Allan attended Christchurch Boys' High School, where he enjoyed tennis success as a student . From 1945 to 1946 he served in the New Zealand Navy before starting to play club rugby for the Marist Albion RC in 1947. In his very first season he injured his neck critically . It took him almost four years to fully recover from this injury. It wasn't until 1951 that he had enough confidence to play rugby again. After just a few games for his club, he was nominated for his performance for the Canterbury RFU team and became a New Zealand international for the first time a year later. He played in 1952 for the New Zealand national team (All Blacks) in the two games against the Australian national team (Wallabies) in the Bledisloe Cup , which the New Zealanders were able to defend with one win and one loss. In 1953 he managed to win the Ranfurly Shield with Canterbury after they defeated the Wellington RFU 27-3 . He was then able to defend the Shield with Canterbury in 23 games in a row until 1956. After the Shield victory, he was appointed to the squad of the New Zealand national team (All Blacks) for their European tour in 1953/54. On this tour, however, he only played in one of five international matches against the Welsh national team, which was also lost.

In 1955 he played in all three international matches for the Bledisloe Cup against Australia. The All Blacks again successfully defended the Cup against the Wallabies with two wins and one loss. In the second game Elsom scored his only international game points when he scored a drop goal.

In 1956 he was able to defeat the South African national team (Springboks) touring New Zealand with Canterbury and in 1957 the All Blacks returning from Australia . In 1958 he resigned from active rugby.
