Allantoma lineata is a species of the genus Allantoma within the potted tree family(Lecythidaceae). It thrives in areas around the Amazon from southern Venezuela to northern Brazil.

description

Allantoma lineata is a small to large tree . The leaves are simple, alternate and not arranged in terminal groups.

The inflorescences are terminal or nearly terminal clusters or simply branched panicles . The flowers are radial symmetry, the klappige cup is five or sechslappig, the individual lobes are broadly triangular, the crown has five or six petals. The Androeceum is adherent to a slightly asymmetrical tubular structure and terminates at its extreme end in eight to ten inwardly bent Lacinae out at the end of the dust bag standing, sitting, the rest of the approximately 30, all fertile anthers distributed in the tube interior. The ovary has four to five, rarely three compartments, each partition contributes around 20 ovules .

The elongated cylindrical capsule fruits open circularly and contain numerous seeds. The wingless seeds are long, narrow-linear. The seed coat (testa) is extremely hard and woody and the flattened funiculus is obsolete.

ecology

No information is available on pollination , but due to the similarity of the flowers to those of the related and beetle-pollinated genus Grias , pollination by beetles is assumed. The seeds are spread through water.

distribution

Allantoma lineata is native to areas in the Amazonian Venezuela and in Brazil on the Rio Negro , the upper reaches of the Orinoco and the tributaries of the lower Amazon.

Systematics

The genus Allantoma was established in 1874 with the first description of the type species Allantoma lineata by John Miers . The genus Allantoma belongs to the subfamily Lecythidoideae within the family Lecythidaceae .

Until 2008 Allantoma lineata was the only kind of genus Allantoma . In 2008, Mori et al. seven species of the genus Cariniana are placed among the Allantoma .
