Every 28 days is a documentary by Ina Borrmann from the year 2015. The film deals with the issue of fertility treatment and artificial insemination .
action
In the film, journalist Ina Borrmann documents her own fertility treatment. The film begins with a brief outline of her life so far. Meanwhile in the late 30s, a previously unknown desire to have children develops with her new partner. When the first attempts do not lead to success in a natural way, the couple turns to Prof. Dr. Heribert Kentenich , who performs a total of three in vitro fertilizations (IVF) on the couple. In spite of the good initial values, the fertilized egg cells unfortunately do not implant. The couple and Ina in particular suffer from the unsuccessful attempts. Subsequently, spontaneous fertilization occurs during a joint vacation, but this ends in a miscarriage .
In desperation, Ina turns to her younger sister, who agrees to an egg donation (illegal in Germany) . The procedure should be performed by Dr. Peter Platteau in the Netherlands. But the values of her sister are too bad so that no egg cells can be obtained.
In the end, the couple gives up and tries to come to terms with a life without children.
background
With this film Ina Borrmann documented her own fertility treatment, from the doctor's appointments to conversations with her partner and her family. In doing so, she tries to create a relentless look.
The world premiere took place on May 15, 2015 at DOK.fest Munich . The film was released on DVD on February 26, 2016.
reception
The reviewer writes on Kinofilmwelt.de:
“At the beginning of this documentary, everything seems a bit staged, especially the conversations between the filmmaker and her husband. But after the unsuccessful first therapy, the images become more and more authentic and undisguised. They relentlessly give insight into the world of emotions, the doubts, the fears, the hopes, the lows of the two. Questions about the meaning of life, about one's own self-image as well as doubts about the omnipotence of medicine are moving more and more into the focus and make this film a very personal document about a social issue that affects more and more couples.
