Heribert Kentenich

Heribert Kentenich (* 1946 in Bergheim ) is a German gynecologist , obstetrician and reproductive medicine specialist . He was chief physician at the DRK women's clinic in Berlin-Westend and professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Kentenich grew up in Bergisch Gladbach . He came to Berlin in the mid-1960s.

Scientific career

Heribert Kentenich studied medicine at the Free University of Berlin and received his license to practice medicine in 1975 . In 1983 he was accepted at the Free University for his work on the subject of "Natural Birth" in the clinic. The behavior of women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum "with the assessment Magna cum laude doctorate . From 1975 to 1984 he worked at the Evangelical Forest Hospital in Spandau .

He received his recognition as a doctor for gynecology and obstetrics in 1984. From 1987 to 1995, Kentenich was the senior physician at the women's and polyclinic at the Rudolf Virchow University Hospital in Charlottenburg. In 1989 he received his habilitation on the subject of "In-vitro fertilization in the context of a fertility clinic with special consideration of psychosocial aspects". From 1995 to 2011 he was chief physician at the DRK women's clinic in Berlin-Westend , and since 1995 he has also been an associate professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin . There he works in the field of gynecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine at the Fertility Center Berlin.

The focus of his work is reproductive medicine and psychosomatic gynecology.

In 2018, the Berlin Medical Association awarded him the Georg Klemperer Medal of Honor “for special merits in patient care in Berlin”.

Functions

Kentenich has numerous functions in scientific institutions and advisory bodies. He has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Psychosomatic Gynecology and Obstetrics and the ethics committee of the Berlin Medical Association since 1989 . From 1990 to 2005 he was a member of the board of the German Society for Psychosomatic Gynecology and Obstetrics, of which he was president from 1993 to 1999. At the same time he was a member of the Advisory Committee from 1990 to 1996 and a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology from 2005 to 2009 . In this company he headed the interest group “Psychology and Counseling”. From 2003 to 2006 he was President and from 2009 to 2010 a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology in Berlin. From 2006 to 2011 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Medical Association and since 2007 chairman of the working group “Open Issues in Reproductive Medicine” at the German Medical Association.

Since 2000 Kentenich has been a member of the editorial board and since 2002 Scientific Advisory Board of the " Journal für Gynäkologische Endokrinologie ". He is also the Scientific Advisory Board of the journals " Gynäkologische Praxis " (2003 to 2006) and " Sexuologie " (since 2006). From 2006 to 2010 he was also Associate Editor of Human Reproduction magazine .
