from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dietmar Richter (* 1939 ) is a German biochemist and microbiologist. He is professor emeritus for biochemistry at the University of Hamburg and founder of the Center for Molecular Neurobiology Hamburg (ZMNH) . Together with Gebhard Koch from Hamburg , he initiated the Blankenese Conferences , an annual symposium on current topics in neurobiology and molecular biology . Koch's successor in the organizing committee has been Wolfgang Meyerhof from the German Institute for Nutritional Research in Potsdam since 2004 .

Life

In 1967 Richter received his doctorate. rer. nat. in microbiology and biochemistry at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry and Physical Chemistry at the University of Kiel . He then worked as a research assistant at the institute until he became a research assistant with Fritz Albert Lipmann at Rockefeller University in New York in 1969 . Richter returned to Germany in 1973 as a group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin .

A year later Richter became professor and director of the department for cell biochemistry at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . He carried out these areas of responsibility until 1985, before becoming director of the Institute for Cell Biochemistry and Clinical Neurobiology there. The institute was closed in 2005 when he retired. Finally, from 1987 on, Richter was involved in setting up the Center for Molecular Neurobiology Hamburg at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf as founding director. In 1996 he resigned from this office but continues to work as a professor emeritus at the ZMNH.
