action

Agathe and Régis Lapierre are the parents of ten-year-old Benoît, who is prone to uncontrolled outbursts of violence. In order to take time for each other and to mend the marriage on vacation, the couple want to hire an old lady as the turbulent boy's “grand mère au pair”. The opening describes the causes of the disturbance of the son Benoîts, the lack of love between the parents makes him react aggressively to his surroundings.

"Mamie Rose", as the petite old lady is soon called by the three Lapierres, comes with the bird Caruso in its cage and the "flirtatious" fish Nina in a plastic bag. “We don't have a cat”, Agathe reassures the lady, just pretending: “We have Benoît!” The Lapierres take Rose, who knows how to defend herself against Benoît's attacks, on vacation. When a boy almost runs in front of their car on the way, Rose reports that her own child has died in an accident. When Rose saves a small injured bird and gives it more attention than Benoît, the situation escalates: Benoît kills the bird.

Later on, Rose saves Agathe and Régis' marriage and brings up the boy who tries suicide because he is jealous of his father. Rose disappears one night. Agathe later learns of Rose's death, but puts her son off to expect her return the following summer.
