Allen Bristol Aylesworth

Sir Allen Bristol Aylesworth PC KCMG KC (born November 27, 1854 in Camden Township , Canada West, now Ontario ; † February 13, 1952 ) was a Canadian lawyer and politician of the Liberal Party of Canada , who served as a member of the House of Commons and Senator for almost 35 years long was a Member of Parliament and Minister in the 8th Canadian Cabinet of Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier .

Life

Aylesworth graduated from school with a law degree at the University of Toronto and took up a position as a lawyer after completing his studies in 1878 . For his lawyer's merits, he later became Attorney-General (King's Counsel) appointed.

As a candidate of the Liberal Party Aylesworth candidate in the elections of 3 November 1904 in the constituency of Durham unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Commons.

Around a year later, on October 16, 1905, Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier appointed him Minister of Post and Minister of Labor in the 8th Canadian Cabinet. He held these ministerial posts until a government reshuffle on June 4, 1906, and then took over the offices of Minister of Justice and Attorney General until the end of Laurier's term on October 6, 1911.

Shortly thereafter, he was also elected to the House of Commons for the first time on November 22, 1905 in a by-election in the Ontario constituency of York North , and was a member of this until the September 20, 1911 election .

Then Aylesworth, who was beaten for his services to Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (KCMG) and from then on carried the suffix "Sir", resumed his practice as a lawyer.

At the suggestion of Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King , he was finally appointed to the Senate on November 1, 1923 and represented there until his death, lying in Ontario Senate Division North York . When he died, he was a member of the Canadian Parliament for almost 35 years.
