The Alliance pour la Démocratie et la Fédération - Rassemblement Démocratique Africain , ADF-RDA is a party from the West African state of Burkina Faso .

ideology

Originally the ADF-RDA was based on the ideals of pan-Africanism , today the ADF-RDA defines itself in its political program as vaguely socially liberal. As a national section, it belongs to the Rassemblement Démocratique Africain , RDA.

history

The ADF-RDA emerged in its current form in 1998 from a merger between various smaller parties and the ADF with the traditional Rassemblement Démocratique Africain , RDA, in whose programmatic tradition it still sees itself today. In terms of electoral strength, the ADF-RDA is one of the most constant parties in Burkina Faso. Already in the parliamentary elections of May 24, 1992 and May 11, 1997, which were contested by the ADF and the RDA independently of one another, they came together to a similar share of the vote of around 13%.

The first president of Burkina Faso, Maurice Yaméogo , a member of the RDA, merged the RDA with some smaller parties to form the Union Démocratique Voltaïque (UDV) immediately after independence , and banned opposition parties. From 1960 to 1966, the UDV was the only party to determine Burkina Faso's politics.

Current policy

Today the ADF-RDA is a small coalition partner of the dominant Congrès pour la démocratie et le progrès , CDP. With the party president Gilbert Noël Ouédraogo (transport minister) and Hyppolite Ouédraogo (delegated minister for technical and vocational training) it provides two of a total of 34 ministers in the current government under Yonli .

In the parliamentary elections on May 6, 2007, the ADF-RDA suffered slight losses. It loses three of its previous 17 seats, but remains the second largest party in parliament with 14 out of a total of 111 seats.

The ADF-RDA achieved a similar voter strength of around 13% in the local elections in 2006.
