Paramanga Ernest Yonli (also Ernest Paramanga Yonli ; born March 15, 1956 in Tansarga , Upper Volta , today Burkina Faso ) was Prime Minister of Burkina Faso from November 2000 to June 2007.

Political career

Yonli comes from Tansarga in the Tapoa province in the east of the country and belongs to the gourmantché ethnic group . From 1981 to 1986 he lived in France , where he obtained a diploma in economics from the Sorbonne , and after his return he was employed at the Center for Economic and Social Research at the University of the capital Ouagadougou .

In October 1994 he became general director of the national employment company Fonds national pour la promotion de l'emploi (FONAPE) . From February 1996 he was the Prime Minister's Cabinet Director and in 1998 became Minister of Public Service. He is a member of the Congrès pour la démocratie et le progrès (CDP), the party of President Blaise Compaoré , who has ruled since 1987 . On November 6, 2000, after the resignation of his predecessor, he was nominated as the new Prime Minister and took office the next day. A few days later, until June 4, 2002, he also assumed the post of finance and economics minister, the government also included some representatives of the opposition. After the parliamentary elections of May 5, 2002, in which the CDP received 57 of the 111 seats, he was again charged with forming a government. After allegations of human rights violations, he created a Ministry of Human Rights in June 2002 .

On January 5, 2006, President Compaoré, who was re-elected in November 2005 with 80.35% of the votes, confirmed him in office. After the parliamentary elections in 2007, in which he won a seat in the National Assembly , he was replaced by Tertius Zongo .

From 2008 to 2011 he was the Burkinabe Ambassador to the United States .

He is married to Araba Kadiatou Zerbo, a daughter of the former head of state and government Saye Zerbo , and has three children.
