Paul Kaba Thieba (born July 28, 1960 in Bobo-Dioulasso , Upper Volta ) is a politician from Burkina Faso . From January 6, 2016 to January 18, 2019, he was the country's head of government .

Life

Thieba studied at the University of Ouagadougou , the University of Paris V and the University of Pierre Mendès-France Grenoble II . Thieba worked at the West African Central Bank. As the successor to Isaac Zida , he became Prime Minister of Burkina Faso on January 6, 2016. He experienced his first political test shortly after taking office, when a hotel in the capital was stormed by Islamists and this hotel was liberated by government troops. Like the other members of the cabinet, he resigned from office on January 18, 2019. Reasons for this step were not given. Previously, calls had been made against him and the defense and security ministers to resign after a series of kidnappings of foreign nationals. A concrete suspicion as to who was responsible has not yet been expressed; however, the areas in which such incidents had occurred are considered areas of operation for groups close to al-Qaeda . On January 21, 2019, President Kaboré appointed business expert Christophe Dabiré as Thieba's successor.

Thieba is married and has three children.
