Allison Eldredge

Allison Eldredge is an American cellist and music teacher.

Life

Eldredge took piano lessons from her mother, the pianist Yoshie Akimoto , as a child, and made her first appearance at the age of six. She switched to the cello at the age of nine and won her first competition six months later. She then studied at the Juilliard School . Her teachers were Harvey Shapiro , Eleonore Schoenfeld , Ardyth Alton , Yo-Yo Ma and Channing Robbins in the subject of cello and Felix Galamir and Lewis Kaplan in the subject of chamber music. She won the Avery Fisher Career Grant and was named Young Artist of the Year by Musical America .

She has appeared as a soloist with renowned American and international orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra , the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields , the Warsaw Philharmonic , the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony , the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Chicago and Cleveland Orchestra . She played under the direction of conductors such as Zubin Mehta , Andre Previn , Krzysztof Penderecki , Jaap van Sweden , Leonard Slatkin , Marin Alsop , Charles Dutoit , Vladimir Spivakov , Evgeni Swetlanow , Hans Vonk , Sergiu Commissiona , Joseph Silverstein , Keith Lockhart , JoAnn Falletta , Stanisław Skrowacewski , Eiji Ōue , Mark Elder , Jorge Mester and Otto-Werner Mueller .

Eldredge's chamber music partners include Joshua Bell , Yo-Yo Ma , Gil Shaham , Mark O'Connor , Shmuel Ashkenasi , Cho-Liang Lin , Chee-Yun , Max Levinson and Yekwon Sunwoo ; She was also a member of the Boston Trio from 2001 to 2011 . As a guest she took part in the Bay Chamber Music Festival , the San Juan Chamber Music Festival , the Ravinia Festival , the Casals Festival , the Colmar Festival in France and the Davos Festival.

She toured North America, Europe and Israel with Krzysztof Penderecki , played his viola concerto in a transcription for cello and in 2013 was first cellist in a performance of his Concerto Grosso No. 1 for three cellos in Warsaw. In 2008 she played works by Paul Schoenfield in New York in the presence of the composer. She also collaborates personally with composers Leon Kirchner , Shigeaki Saegusa , Lukas Foss and Andy Vores , and she also played works by other contemporary composers such as Joan Tower , Bright Sheng , George Crumb and Ellen Taaffe Zwillich . In 2015 she performed Michael Daugherty's cello concerto Tales of Hemingway under the direction of Steven Byess .

Eldredge's teaching activities are also extensive. She has taught cello and chamber music at all levels at the New England Conservatory since 2000 and taught at Harvard University from 2008 to 2011 . She also gave master classes at many universities and conservatories in the United States and supported music teaching in more than 100 schools across the country. She also gives private lessons in her own studios in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
