Allmenningen is a village in the Norwegian municipality of Kinn in the province of Vestland .
location
It is located on the north bank of the Nordfjord . To the north rise mountain ranges that reach heights of up to 600 meters with the Sankta (689 meters). The village of Eldevika is located a little west of Allmenningen . Riksvei 15 runs north of the village . In the fjord, the island of Allmenningsholmen is in front of the village , which is connected to the mainland by a dam and thus forms a protected harbor area.
history
The name of the place probably goes back to a historical road that led through the village area. In 1632 there was only one farm, which was then divided into two equally sized farms. In the period around 1650/60 the two farms were reunited until it was divided again in 1867. In 1886 Allmenningen became a landing stage for steam shipping . The embankment for the landing stage was completed in 1907, so that from then on it was no longer necessary to transport goods and people to the ships by rowing boat. At that time, Allmenningen had a post office and telegraph station in addition to a shop . In 1892/93 a school was built in the village, where children from other settlements on the north bank of the Nordfjord such as Angelshaug , Brunsvik , Eldevika, Falkevika , Verpet and Vemmelsvik were educated. Around 1979 a new school building was built.
However, in 2002 the public school was closed. A private Montessori school was set up on the initiative of parents, but it was also closed after a few years. At the beginning of the 21st century, the population development in the town was still stable and the development of the town was shaped by various new buildings.
economy
The factory of the window and door manufacturer Nordvestvinduet Bygg og Innbu AS is located directly on the bank of the fjord in the eastern part of the village. Its distinctive structure is characteristic of the image of the place from the fjord. There is also agriculture in Allmenningen, although its importance has declined.
