Almanta's Leika
Almantas Leika (born November 25, 1968 in Anykščiai ) is a Lithuanian brigadier general who is currently working for the NATO Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum . From 2012 to 2016 he was the commander of the Lithuanian Land Forces .
Life
Almantas Leika was born on November 25, 1968 in Anykščiai (then part of the Lithuanian SSR ). From 1975 to 1986 he attended the Antanas Vienuolis Middle School . This was followed by studies at the Pedagogical Institute in Vilnius, which he completed in 1991 with a Master of Arts .
Leika is married and has four children (two daughters and two sons).
Military career
In 1991, Almantas Leika joined the newly emerging armed forces of his homeland . Until 1995 he attended the Lithuanian Military Academy , where he was trained as an officer. In the next few years he took on various tasks in the land forces (in addition to deployments in Lithuania, also numerous abroad) and took part in training and further training measures in order to qualify as a command officer. In 2001 he attended the Baltic Defense Academy (BALTDEFCOL) and in 2006 the United States Army War College . After returning from the United States, he was promoted to colonel in 2007 .
From 2010 to 2011 he was Head of the Human Resources Department in the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania and was promoted to Brigadier General by President Dalia Grybauskaitė on July 28, 2011 . In July 2012 he was appointed commander of the land forces , succeeding Jonas Vytautas Žukas , and in the same year he was appointed major general on duty . In August 2016 he moved to the NATO Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum in the Netherlands.
