Alois A. Hirschmugl (* 1960 ) is a professional officer in the Austrian Armed Forces ( brigadier ), international disaster manager, management consultant and professor.

Life

Hirschmugl graduated from the Bischöfliches Gymnasium Graz in 1978 and was a member of the youth red cross group “Prof. Arnold Wittek ”in Graz. In 1982 he retired from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt (born Laudon ), completed a peacekeeping mission in Cyprus in 1986 and was a. a. Head of Human Resources for missions abroad and advisor to the Austrian Chief of Staff, General Edmund Entacher, on humanitarian issues.

In addition to activities in the military pastoral care, he also held the presidency of the “Officers' Society of Styria” (2003–2005) and has been registered as an external expert at the International Criminal Court since 2006. From 1999 he worked in the international disaster management of the United Nations - United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination / UNDAC and from 2006 in the joint procedure of the European Commission - / Union Civil Protection: Flood in Mozambique (2000 - 2 deployments), Bangladesh (2004) and Pakistan (2010), earthquakes in Algeria (2003), Iran (2004) and Indonesia (2006), tsunami in Southeast Asia (2005), explosions of an ammunition depot in Albania (2008) and on a naval base in Cyprus with the destruction of the adjacent Vasilikos Power Plant ( 2011) and a Disaster Preparedness Mission in the occupied areas of Palestine (2014).

Between 2007 and 2010 he served as a board member of the Global Humanitarian Forum in Geneva under the direction of the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi A. Annan . Since 2012 he has also been a member of the advisory panel of the London “Crisis Response Journal”. As part of EU projects, he deals with the areas of EU Civil Protection, FP 7 and HORIZON 2020 - Space, Security, Disaster Resilience. In 2006 he wrote the handbook “ Operation Law for Peace Support , Humanitarian and Disaster Operations ” ( ISBN 3-901183-52-3 ).

For his activities he was u. a. Awarded the Great Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria , the Golden Medal of Honor of the State of Styria , the Golden Cross of Merit of the Order of St. George and the Officers 'Cross of the “Styrian Officers' Society”. In 2014 he was awarded the New Year's Eve (Commendator Ordinis Sancti Silvestri Papae). On April 24, 2017, he was awarded the professional title of "Professor" as an adult educator.
