Alois Lichtsteiner

Alois Lichtsteiner (born July 9, 1950 in Ohmstal , Switzerland ) is a Swiss painter and object artist.

Life

Alois Lichtsteiner was born in 1950 in Ohmstal , in the canton of Lucerne . By 1970 he completed compulsory schools and the teachers' seminar and graduated with a teaching diploma. After that he worked in various craft professions.

In 1974 Alois Lichtsteiner traveled to North and Central Africa for one year. Back in Switzerland, he attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts , which he successfully completed in 1978. In the same year Alois Lichtsteiner had his first solo exhibition in the Bern gallery with Johannes Gachnang in Bern . In 1989/90 he received a grant from the Canton of Bern, which enabled him to stay in Paris . Since 1990 he has lived and worked in Murten and Paris.

Between 1994 and 1998 Alois Lichtsteiner was visiting professor at the Ecole Cantonale des Beaux-Arts in Sion / Sierre . Until 2004 he was President of the Jury for Bachelor and Master at HEA Sierre .

Alois Lichtsteiner is married and has one son.

The pictures and objects by Alois Lichtsteiner - whether they are birch pictures, vessels or mountain pictures - are neither depiction nor abstraction . What we see is specific. It is always what it is at the same time, i.e. brush strokes / color on a picture body and what it means, e.g. B. Snow on mountain slopes and places where it has melted.

Alois Lichtsteiner does not make mountains, birches or vessels; he always only means the painting itself, a skin-covered body, a pictorial body covered with color skin. Lichtsteiner's concept of painting is based on the sensual perception of the world through the skin. He just changes his point of view to keep examining the same thing from a different angle. It is about the basic questions of painting.

The various work cycles “The Contents of the Vessels”, “Birch”, or “Mountain” also experience a motive questioning in the course of their treatment, without the image pretending to be anything other than a body, covered with a layer of skin of color. In the reduced combination of white and gray shapes, z. B. in the mountain pictures without depicting the monumental diversity of the high mountains conceptually and sensually present.
