Alois Reckendorf (born June 10, 1841 in Trebitsch , † April 11, 1911 in Leipzig ) was a German pianist , music teacher , university teacher and composer .

Life

After graduating from school in Brno , Reckendorf enrolled at the Vienna Polytechnic Institute . He then studied philosophy at the University of Heidelberg and finally completed a degree at the Royal Conservatory in Leipzig , where he later taught from 1877 until his death.

His best-known student was the pianist Wilhelm Backhaus , whom he had trained musically since 1891. From 1894 - at the age of ten - Backhaus was taught for five years by Alois Reckendorf directly at the Conservatory in Leipzig.

“When I was shown to him for the first time, I played him all the ballet music for Puppenfee by Josef Bayer by heart , which was a great success in Leipzig at the time. It shows that the actual elementary lesson could be skipped and he dismissed me by giving me one of the little Beethoven sonatinas to prepare for the next (first) lesson. "

In addition to Backhaus, Else Gipser, Johan Halvorsen , Alfred Hill , Oswin Keller, Johann Otto Leonhardt, Karl Net, Maud Powel , Alfred von Sponer, Gustav Strube and Edith Robinson studied with him .
