Alois Schloffer

Alois Amandus Schloffer (born February 6, 1833 in Graz ; † February 15, 1911 there ) was an Austrian politician and lawyer in Graz and Eibiswald .

Life

Alois Schloffer studied Jus at the Universities of Graz and Vienna and received his doctorate after the Dr. jur. at the University of Graz. Schloffer completed his practical years in Graz and established himself as a lawyer in Eibiswald in 1866 and later (1868) in Graz. After he had already been politically active in Eibiswald, he was a liberal member of the Styrian state parliament from 1867–1877 , where he was one of the most important speakers on the constitution, social and cultural policy and state finances. In addition, he led the school department as a member of the state committee from 1869 to 1873. In this position, he mainly campaigned for the establishment of the first citizen schools in Styria . He had to resign from both political functions due to excessive workload. From 1879 Schloffer was President of the Styrian Bar Association and was committed to the independence and economic interests of the legal profession. In 1869 he was a member of the Steiermärkische Sparkasse committee , and from 1881–1911 was their legal adviser. In addition, from 1894 Schloffer was a member of the Leykam board of directors. He was also active in various non-profit associations , such as the Volksbibliothek, which he headed for more than 25 years. However, he made particular merits as chairman (1880-1910) of the German School Association .

He was the father of the surgeon and university professor Hermann Schloffer .
